THE PERIOD HOMES

The Period Homes.

我们说中文

The period homes concept is an idea that can be seen to be

extremely complicated; it is a difficult subject to discuss.

Continuing from before:

THE MID VICTORIAN ERA. 1860-1875.

Key features VICTORIAN include:

1. Facade – is often stucco (meaning rendered with a decorative coating)

2. Cast iron lacework – This is common to verandas and balustrades.

3. Roof –  the roof is usually slate or corrugated galvanised iron, with timber eaves.

4. Windows – we see double hung timber windows that are often arched in shape.

THE BIG DIFFERENCES.

THE EARLY VICTORIAN HOUSES LOOKED A LOT LIKE

OLD COLONIAL GEORGIAN.

THE MID VICTORIAN HOMES DID NOT.

THE MAIN DIFFERENCES?
PERHAPS THE EXTENT OF DECORATION AND THE ADVENT OF THE BULL NOSE VERANDAH.

While retaining a similar form to its Early Victorian precursors, this era of house was distinguished by a greater level of ornamentation. There was an increased use of stucco on exterior surfaces, while decorative brickwork was prevalent in fashionable houses of the period. Verandahs were common, usually of timber construction and often incorporated cast iron lacework and patterned tile floors.
